Sometimes, when we sit with a close friend, we feel our hearts becoming more open, and we find the ability to speak about even very sensitive things. During the first 15 minutes of the conversation, we couldn’t touch on those topics, but an hour in... and the hearts are opened, and everything is on the table.
Why is this? Because closeness and intimacy developed. So long as there are layers of shame and personal interest, they prevent a person from opening up his heart. After shedding these layers, close friends can speak even about things that are unpleasant, because they feel comfortable and understood. “I can tell this person my innermost secrets, and he won’t judge me.”
If we can develop such a connection with a human being—who’s merely a חלק אלו-ה ממעל—how much more so must we be able to develop an intimate connection with the Ribbono shel Olam. We need only internalize how deep the connection is and to understand that we can tell Him everything, because He will never reject us. “I am one hundred percent certain that He will never cast me away.”
