The Gemara in Shabbos 119b says, “לא חרבה ירושלים, אלא על שלא הוכיחו זה את זה” – “Yerushalayim was only destroyed because the people did not rebuke one another.” In the Torah, when it speaks about one’s obligation to rebuke another, the Posuk says, “הוכח תוכיח את עמיתך” – it uses a double Lashon of rebuke, הוכח תוכיח. We learn from this Posuk that one must rebuke another even one hundred times if necessary. The Gemara in Arachin 16b says that one needs to rebuke even if it is met by hitting from the one being rebuked, or he is being cursed by him.
The Midrash in Eichah Rabbah says, “חטאו בכפלים” – Klal Yisroel transgressed that which the Torah has a double Lashon for it, הוכח תוכיח. The implications are that this applies even to the Tzaddikim, as explained that this obligation is so broad, that most transgress it. If there would not be Tzaddikim, two things would be lacking: One is that Tzaddikim alive in this world cause Shefa to come to the world, and this would cease if they are not in the world. The second thing is that the Tzaddikim alive in this world by their causing good to come to the world, also prevents bad from coming to the world.
When they are not in this world, it will cause bad to come to the world. Thus, “לקו בכפלים” – there is a double beating; goodness will not come to the world, and bad will come to the world. The Midrash ends that, “ויתנחמו בכפלים” – that we will be Zoche, in the future, to be comforted doubly, a reference to the third Bais Hamikdash, which we should be Zoche to speedily in our days, which will be double the first Bais Hamikdash.
The three Avos are K’neged the three Batei Mikdosh. Avrohom Avinu was K’neged the first Bais Hamikdash; Yitzchok Avinu was K’neged the second one; and Yaakov Avinu was K’neged the third one. The site upon which the Bais Hamikdash was built was given different names by the Avos Hakdoshim. Avrohom called it, “הר” – “mountain”; Yitzchok called it, “שדה” – “field,” and Yaakov called it, “בית” – “house” (Pesachim 88a). Avrohom called it, “הר” the Gematria of 206 with the Kolel, the same Gematria as “אמונה,” two times with the Kolel. Yitzchok added another, “103אמונה“, with the Kolel, to make the Gematria a total of 309, and thus called it, “שדה” the Gematria of 309. Yaakov will add one more אמונה, adding 103 to the 309, thus he called it “בית” which is the Gematria of 412 (which is four times the word “אמונה”).
While Avrohom had “אמונה” twice, Yaakov will have double that, and will have אמונה four times, a total Gematria of “412בית“, . The first Bais Hamikdash was in the Zechus of Avrohom, which was destroyed. The second Bais Hamikdash was in the Zechus of Yitzchok, and this too was destroyed. The third Bais Hamikdash will be in the Zechus of Yaakov, and it will remain for eternity – thus he called it “בית” a permanent structure. Klal Yisroel will have a double Nechama, in that when they will be Zoche to the third Bais Hamikdash, which will be in the Zechus of Yaakov, will be “בית”. It will be double the first Bais Hamikdash, which was in the Zechus of Avrohom, that was called ““. )אדרת אליהוהר)
