Fear Of Hashem Is Very Healthy and Causes a Person to Live Longer

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

There is a time and place for all of us to approach Hashem and talk our heart out to Him. My sister, Rochel Feder ע"ה filled many notebooks with her letters to Hashem; and she was Zoche to unusually high Madregos.

Anybody with basic Sechel realizes how a human is zero-minus compared to his Creator, and he is expected to be in a state of tremendous fear for Hashem. This is very healthy, and: יִרְאַת ה' תּוֹסִיף יָמִים (Mishlei 10:27) fear of Hashem causes one to live longer. (see Rabeinu Yonah and R' Nosson Wachtfogel Zatzal). Just like He created you, so is He going to take your Neshama away when the time comes, after 120 years.

Yet, He wants to be friendly with us. אָב הָרַחֲמָן “My closest Yedid and loving Father”. Binyamin and Shlomo were called Yedidim with Hashem, and every Yid should try to develop a warm and close relationship with Hashem, despite the ongoing fear and awe and admiration beyond words.

Hashem wants us to take advantage, and talk to Him as much as possible. Many giants in Klal Yisroel have their roots of greatness due to being very much involved in: שִיחָה בֵּינוֹ לְקוֹנוֹ speaking privately with Hashem, especially the Chofetz Chaim Zatzal, who was famous for this, and he encouraged others to do so. You can change your life with this.

Most Of Our Relationship with Hashem Should Be Thankfulness

People ask me how does a person have a right to tell Hashem what to do. Leah Imeinu is my prime example. Look how she married Yaakov against the decision of Yitzchok Avinu, who had her in mind for Eisav HaRasha. Of course we need a Rebbe for everything we do, but often, Hashem desires our utilizing the tremendous Koach HaTefila that a Tzelem Elokim has. Hopefully, most of your relationship should be thankfulness.

Hashem gives people who are close to Him many more Yeshuos than other people. They are smart, and they keep remembering their Yeshuos, and forgetting all the Tefilos they had that weren’t answered. This is why they have great Bitachon! Notice how our daily Tefilos are loaded with the #1 success story of Klal Yisroel, i.e., Yetzias Mitzrayim and Kriyas Yam Suf! A clear sign that Yidden have to also drown themselves in the sweet memories of their personal Yeshuos and answered Tefilos!
