Setting Goals for Chanukah

Ba'er Heitev | December 07, 2025

As we approach the Yom Tov of Chanukah, we must set our goals and aspirations, how to fulfill it and achieve it to its entirety. Among “Alter Chassidim” in the time of the Yenukoh ZY”A, they would say “Shabbos Chanukoh, darf mehn fohrin (one must travel) in Stolin”. In the time of the Beis Aharon, there was an “Alter Chossid” who would make the trip to Karlin by foot, and every step that he took on his motivated journey, he would say “Ah kop nenter in Karlin - a head closer to Karlin”. On a similar note a Chossid once traveled to Karlin from Yerusholayim, in the time of the Rebbe of Karlin, Rav Avrohom Elimelech ZY”A HY”D, and upon his return to Yerusholayim, (at 2 am) he climbed on to the roof of the Rihziner Shul (Reb Nisson Becks Shul), in the Old City of Yerusholayim, and called out “Der voss vill vissen az ess iz doh ah Guht oif der velt, zol fohrin in Karlin – he who wants to know that there is a G-D on this world, should travel to Karlin”!
