Things That Seem Bad, In Hashem’s World Are Really Good

During the years of the first Bais Hamikdash, the two K’ruvim in the Kodesh HaKodoshim were either facing each other, or turning away from each other. It depended on whether Hashem was happy or upset with us. (see Nefesh HaChaim). But on the day of the Churban (Tisha B’av) they were actually hugging each other. (Gemara).

People are mistaken about what is good and what is bad in this world. In Hashem’s world, everything is good! Chazal say: טוֹב מְ אֹּ ד זֶ ה יֵצֶ ר הָׁ רָׁ ע “Hashem saw that it was VERY good”, this refers to the Yetzer Hara! After a person sins he can do Teshuva, and now he’s even better than a Tzaddik Gamur, like Chazal say: בְמָׁקוֹם שֶבַעֲלֵי תְשוּבָׁה עוֹמְדִּים אֵין צַדִּיקִּים גְמוּרִּ ים יְכוֹלִּין לַעֲמוֹד ברכות לד ב Baalei Teshuva are even GREATER than pure Tzaddikim!

The Maharal says that when a person says Gam Zu L'tovah he can turn the most extreme evil into the most extreme good.

Nachum Ish Gam Zu

This was the story with Nachum Ish Gam Zu, who was representing the Jewish people in bringing a gift to the Caesar, which consisted of a chest of jewels, but when he stayed in a motel overnight, they switched the precious jewels for earth. Nachum said Gam Zu L'tovah, and proceeded to bring the earth as a gift to the Caesar (the most insulting thing to do). And since he said Gam Zu L'tovah, the earth turned into the most powerful weaponry, which the Caesar used to conquer his most invincible enemies and win the toughest battles with ease! (Gemara).

Churban was the most horrific episode in history, and until today the entire world suffers from the effect on the Churban (even the food doesn’t taste as good compared to before the Churban) (Chazal).
