Since the wise son approaches everything with Chochma, we answer him with a Chok i.e. that you may not add any dessert after the Pesach. A Chok is a law that is beyond logic. In our answer, we are telling him, “Don’t be such a Chochom”! Don’t limit yourself to a service based on intellect but serve in a way that is higher than intellect.
We can see this hinted in the word אפיקומן which is made up of the words אפיק קומה, “go out of your stature”. This refers to intellect, the highest part of man’s stature. We tell the Chochom to go beyond his Chochma.
