You grew and came to have great charm

MAOR CENTRE publications | June 27, 2025

Literally this Posuk means “you grew and came to have great charm”. The Chachamim explain that it is talking about how the Jewish people became numerous in Mitzraim with flocks and flocks of children.

The Frierdike Rebbe gives a Chassidishe explanation. ותגדלי means to become great in Torah study. The term בעדי עדיים, in addition to meaning flocks also means adornments, referring to the novel Torah insights (חדושי תורה). But the Posuk concludes ואת ערום וערי', "you were naked and bare". This teaches us that a person could be great in Torah and even make their own Chiddushim, but still, they can be naked, or empty of Mitzvos.
