With 3 types of foods Yaakov benches his sons. Asher with oil, and Yehuda with wine and milk. Oil is known to be special that it comes from an inedible bitter olive, and the more you crush it, the more beautiful golden yellow oil comes out, which can give light to the world. Creamy, rich, white, delicious milk comes from disgusting inedible blood (Chazal), and plain grapes can produce intoxicating wine which gives Simcha. Wine is a new entity, with its own Bracha different than the Bracha on grapes.
The same with Yaakov himself, who started off being a “Yaakov” which means he held on to Eisav’s smelly heel. A heel symbolizes the lowest part of a person, and indeed Ik'visa Dim'shicha is called “Eikev” (a heel) because our Dor is indeed the lowest of all the Doros (generations), yet with Hashem’s help we will produce the greatest Yeshua of all mankind, i.e., Y’mos HaMoshiach. “Moshiach” means “shmearing”, like high oil. Yaakov became “Yisroel”, meaning: שָׂרִ יתָׂ to prevail, and: שַ ר a prince; i.e., on top and greatness.
This is the greatness of: בְ חִ יר שֶּ בְ אָ בות the greatest of all three Avos, to overcome and change (The Ohr HaChaim says Yaakov means Atzvus (depression), and when he is called “Yisroel” he was B'simcha). Speaking of food, we have Yaakov sending: מִזִמְרַת הָׂאָׂרֶץ ,מְעַט צֳרִ י וּמְעַט דְבַש נְכֹאת וָׂלֹט בָׂטְנִים וּשְקֵדִ ים מקץ מג יא “Zimras” HaAretz. “Zimras” means it makes you sing. (Rashi). We can suggest that when Yaakov saw how the viceroy from Mitzrayim (Yosef) was making so much trouble for his sons, he sent him foods and spices that make you sing and calm down.
Happy people don’t make trouble. And maybe Yaakov got this idea from his father Yitzchok, who encouraged his son Eisav to be a: צַיִד בְפִיו hunter, since Eisav didn’t have Simchas HaTorah like Yaakov, good food will make him happy, like Oneg Shabbos and Simchas Yom Tov which must have good food. When you are happy and learn loads of Bitachon, you love more easily.
