Chizuk and the Path to Avodas Hashem

Bitachon Weekly | December 10, 2025

You become close to Hashem either by action (Olah) or passive enjoyment (Shelamim). (RSRH)

We mentioned last week that an: עָ נָן (cloud) for daytime means doing and growing in Avodas Hashem, and the nighttime light symbolizes those dysfunctional types who cannot Shteig since they are in a darkness mode, and their Tachlis is to enjoy the lights of their life, and just being Sameach B'chelko. When those people try to grow, they only get depressed, and their entire Tachlis is just being M'chazek themselves.

Again and again: Chizuk, Chizuk, Chizuk. “I’m Gevaldig no matter what”. Saying this is their Tachlis, or else they’re in trouble, Chas V’shalom. And to be Sameach B'chelko is lots of work and a major accomplishment. There are so many people out there who are a bundle of nerves, and I keep begging them: “Don’t be such an Oved Hashem! Just relax, and enjoy being alive in Hashem’s beautiful world”.

Some people are so intense and worried about their Ruchaniyus, that their “Mizbeach” appears like חַ רְ בְ ךָ הֵ נַפְ תָ a “killing” sword, i.e., they are destructive to themselves like a sword, Chas V'shalom. A person has to learn how to be in a Mizbeach mode, i.e., to use a knife to feed you delicious food!

We need to always work on being more and more: דַ רְ כֵי נוֹעַ ם in line with the pleasant way of the Torah, and to ask Hashem for a Geshmak in learning, as we say every morning: וְהַ עֲ רֵ ב נָא make the Torah Geshmak!

The Gr”a says that the reason why people don’t Shteig is because they jump Madregos that are not for them. How can you Shteig with tons of depressive thoughts crowding your mind? It could very well be that the main reason of your very existence is to spend your time mainly with just being happy, accepting yourself, and looking for the light in your darkness. Of course, you need a Rebbe.
