Without Purity and Kedusha, A Person Can Never Ascend to Greatness

RSRH Zatzal says that with: י עֶ רְ וָ הגִ לוּ lack of Tz'niyus, the heights of the Mizbeach will never be mounted! Similarly, when looking upwards at Har Sinai, it says: אַ ל תִ גְ שׁוּ אֶ ל אִ שָ ה יט טו. And by Yom Kippur we read Arayos. All these places of Romemus do not tolerate problems with Arayos. Shevet Shimon was never was Zoche to a Shofet was because they were involved in Z’nus with Zimri. (I told this to R’ Nosson Wachtfogel Zatzal, and he enjoyed it).

We can also say that the greatness of “ascending” the Mizbeach, aspiring “upwards” at Har Sinai, and fasting like a Malach on Yom Kippur, is that a potential Baal Ta'ava is aiming upwards. The Malachim were not worthy of Kabolas HaTorah because: קִ נְ אָ ה יֵ שׁ בֵ ינֵיכֶם? שבת פח ב they have no jealousy. If you have no unwanted, nasty lusts, and no wicked side to you, then you are a Malach and the Torah isn’t for you.
