True and Authentic Yiras Shamayim

Havineini | June 27, 2025

Indeed, when we read the tefillah, we see very strong expressions of tefillah that “our children should possess true and authentic yiras Shamayim, not superficial and external yirah.” We must understand what we’re saying here. We’re not davening that others should see our nachas, or that even we ourselves should see it. We plead with Hashem that when our child experiences a nisayon when no one is looking, he should have the strength to withstand it—for kevod Shamayim, for the Ribbono shel Olam!

We also say, “for the purpose that they, and I, all of us, should engage in the study of Your holy Torah, to learn, to teach, to guard, to do, and to uphold all the words in Your Torah with love.”
