If their main agenda in life would have been to break their own Middos and have control, then they would have welcomed their Nisayon (of having Moshe not show-up on time) with open arms. When Shevet Levi wasn’t Nichshal in Chet HaEigel, they showed their true colors. They were learning Torah in Mitzrayim, and the Ben-Torah is full of Menucha and Bitachon, like it says: וַּיַּרְ א מְנֻח ה כִי טוֹב ויחי מט טו he saw that Menucha (i.e., Torah) is good. have Bitachon and patience, since: וְה יוּ לִי הַּלְוִיִם being close to Hashem and having Bitachon is compared to: נַּפְשִׁי כְג מֻל עֲלֵי אִמוֹ בתהלים קלא a baby in his mother’s hands (Gr”a) which means being relaxed and calm.
