This entire process focuses the person toward emunah and bitachon in Hashem, the recognition that we rely on nissim for everything to go well for our children. There is so much that must go right for every child—and we must rely on Hashem for all of it.
Rav Moshe Halberstam, one of the great poskim of Yerushalayim, would spend many moments holding his hand on the mezuzah every night when saying Krias Shema. In his old age, he was asked about this, and he explained that every night he would daven for each and every one of his children by name, asking that they go on the proper path.
This recognition keeps a person in the proper state of mind, knowing that he is reliant on Hashem for every aspect of his child’s development, spiritual and material. And we daven for miracles... for this child, for that child...
