All Humans Are Just Messengers of Hashem

Chazal say7 that Gan Eden screams: "Give me Tzadikim! And which Tzadikim? The Baalei Bitachon". כָל מִצְוֹתֶיךָ אֱמוּנָה תהלים קיט פו The Emuna is the basis of everything, and especially Dovid's ability to not worry and hold himself back from taking N'kama and protecting himself, came from his great Emuna and Bitachon. You aren't really and truly upset with humans, even those who want to kill you if you see them all as: שְׁלוּחִים messengers of Hashem. And Dovid was known to say about Shim'i ben Gera who cursed him terribly: ה' אָמַר לוֹ קַלֵּל ש"ב טז י Hashem told him to curse me.

And then Dovid says: וְהִנֵּה כַּאֲשֶׁר גָּדְלָה נַפְשְׁךָ הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה בְּעֵינַי כֵּן תִּגְדַּל נַפְשִׁי בְּעֵינֵי ה' וְיַצִּילֵנִי מִכָּל צָרָה ש"א כו כד. Just as I cherished your life, so shall my life be cherished in the eyes of Hashem (Midda K'neged Midda) and He will save me from all Tzaros. Dovid had tremendous respect for his worst enemy, Shaul, and so did he cherish his own precious Neshama (כֵּן תִּגְדַּל נַפְשִׁי) He lived with Midda K'neged Midda all his life. No wonder he was so super good and soft and forgiving and tolerating and being Dan L'kaf Zechus even the lowest!
